Modern Building Envelope Design- Curtain Wall Facade

2022-04-22
With the advancement of building technology, modern building envelope design does make great progress in the modern building construction in recent years. Curtain wall building is such a typical example here. In the current market, curtain wall systems are non-structural cladding systems widely used as the external walls of high-rise buildings. They are very popular with large and multi-storey commercial buildings around the world. In practical applications, curtain walls separate the interior from the exterior, but only support their own weight and the loads imposed on them (such as wind loads, seismic loads, and etc.) which they transfer back to the primary structure of the building. This is the major difference from many forms of traditional construction in which the external walls are a fundamental part of the primary structure of the building. In some cases, Curtain wall systems can be custom designed and manufactured, but are often manufacturer's proprietary systems that can be bought 'off the shelf'. Custom-designed systems are generally only cost effective for larger buildings. In recent years, modern building envelope has obtained much more improvement than before. For example, pressure-equalised systems create a rebate between the internal and external gasket that is ventilated to the outside so that there is no pressure difference between the outside and the rebate. As a result, water is not driven into the rebate by a pressure difference that would otherwise build up across the outer gasket. Especially for modern curtain wall design, any rain that penetrates the outer seal can be drained to the outside through the vents, or weep holes. This is considered to be more reliable than face-sealed systems that attempt to create a 'perfect' seal which inevitably fails due to pressure-driven moisture. Besides, water-managed systems are similar to pressure-equalised systems, but there is no attempt to prevent water penetrating the outer seal, and so the primary function of weep holes or drains is to drain water rather than to allow pressure equalisation. However, considering that curtain wall costs are relatively high in most of the building construction today, extensive repairs and refurbishment to a curtain wall can be difficult and expensive. In that regard, it is very important for you to choose a professional metal, stone, and glass restoration provider before you would like to develop and implement a customized maintenance plan for your curtain walls in future. We are committed to producing various types of steel products for your choice in your building project in future. Our products are all designed for the fast and easy installation of curtain walls. Contact us if you have any need in your project.
